Because symptoms lead to soul, the cure of symptoms may also cure away soul, get rid of just what is beginning to show, at first tortured and crying for help, comfort, and love, but which is the soul in the neurosis trying to make itself heard… The right reaction to a symptom may as well be a welcoming rather than laments and demands for remedies, for the symptom is the first herald of an awakening psyche which will not tolerate any more abuse.
James Hillman, Archetypal Psychologist
Not only is soul integration NOT just some esoteric, philosophical idea, it is the essential reason why we are here on the planet—and, in fact, it’s inevitable.
My contention is that we’re here is to integrate our soul’s essence into our physical bodies such that we can share our soul’s gifts through these physical bodies and onto this physical plane—serving humanity with our unique gifts.
You see, the planet and everyone on it needs each of us to do the thing we came here to do.
That’s how important each of us is.
But the second we come into this world, our primitive nervous systems pick up on the fact that few, if any, of the people around us are expressing their soul’s essence completely.
In fact, sooo much energy is being spent in the various ways they push it away.
Our systems automatically and instantly adopt this way of being as well because of an instinctual need to fit in with the herd.
In that process our attention and presence goes limp and our connection to our soul’s essence and gifts goes dim.
How do we wake up and strengthen our attention muscles, restoring our connection to soul?
We need look no further than the pains, problems, challenges, etc. that are right in front of our faces.
Our pain is the gateway through which life is calling us back into relationship with our soul.
Recently I was interviewed by holistic wellness coach, Allison Rothman in Boulder, Colorado on her Embodied & Awake Podcast on the subject of the soul integration process.

As with all healers, my story began many years previous.
I was growing up on a farm in Nebraska when I had an accident on an ATV.
This accident left me in a lot of chronic pain.
My dad took a bold move for the time and booked an appointment with a chiropractor.
My musculoskeletal pain started to clear up but something unexpected also happened.
Things like the bronchial infections and headaches that I’d had ever since I could remember also cleared up.
I had always had the feeling that our bodies healed from within and this helped prove that point to me.
I was so happy that I thought this is what I wanted to do.
This doctor, who wasn’t like a medical doctor, made me want to heal people the same way.
Eventually, I entered chiropractic school.
In chiropractic school I did everything the hard way: I studied hard, worked out hard, partied hard, and ended up finding myself in a dark place.
I was still experiencing regular lower back pain and that added to the darkness.
Here I was, supposed to be training to help others heal their pain, and I was a mess myself.
I started to look for more answers and that is when I found a woman who practiced a technique called Network Chiropractic and booked a session.
I was skeptical from the start.
Here was someone who barely touched me, yet expected to help me heal my physical pain.
I stuck it out, however, and something happened after approximately fifteen sessions.
I left a session one day filled with this new, incredible feeling.
I felt as though I was 300 pounds lighter.
The feeling that rose from my back and up through my heart made me believe that anything was possible in the world.
I felt like a veil had been removed from my eyes.
The sky seemed more alive.
Trees held a more vibrant color.
I felt alive as never before.
Looking back I realize it was profound gratitude and awe I was feeling.
That day, I realized that if I was experiencing trouble in my life, it was my own doing.
I knew I was the one that needed to change things and I knew what changes needed to be made—everything was clear.
From that day onward, I headed in a new direction.
My lower back pain also improved greatly.
I wanted to share my experience with everyone.
BioSoul Integration, a soul integration therapy, had been born, though it would be another twenty years before I named the process.
In order to understand why this process works, we need to take a look at why we experience pain and how Source uses pain to help us evolve.
About two to four weeks after conception, our primal nervous system awakens.
From those earliest moments we find ourselves trying to make sense of the human experience.
We need to figure out how to process emotions such as love, fear, anger, etc.
This figuring out happens on an unconscious level at the level of our primal brain.
As we sense into those around us, we feel compelled to be as they are being.
It is because we are totally dependent on them that we feel compelled to mirror them.
We absorb their thoughts and feelings on both good and bad things.
When we see they have built walls to hold certain emotions at bay, we figure that is how things should be done.
We take on their idea that the world is a scary place and certain emotions can be even scarier and need to be hidden, or controlled.
However, as humans life nudges us in the direction of our growth and evolution.
At certain points along the life journey, Source steps in when it is time for you to move forward.
When that’s the case, it is time to break down the walls we’ve created within ourselves because we need the very things they are holding back in order to get through the next stage of your evolution.
When the enegy bound up in those walls starts to unfold, that is often when pain comes into the picture.
Pain is meant to bring our awareness to the energy contained in those walls.
Think of pain as a ball that is made up of a tangled mess of physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual stuff that has been pushed aside.
This ball needs to be untangled, it’s different strands clarified, but in order to do that, you need to look more closely at the pain and feel it mor intimately.
You need to stay present with it as it starts to share its message with you.
The longer you stay with it, the more it is freed, the clearer its message.
Pain appears to tell you it is time to break down those walls and allow those hidden emotions to come to the surface.
You will need these in order to grow and evolve.
It is like a computer that needs upgrading.
You can’t do it without all the necessary files.
This unveiling can sometimes be a lifelong process.
This is especially true as you enter new stages of life and need more of what is still hidden.
We like to think that we want ourselves to only experience the positive, but both the light and the dark within us need to be acknowledged in order for us to be whole.
The soul integration process allows that to happen.
I want to give you an idea of what it looks like at my office.
During a hands-on session you will find yourself in a room with other people.
Most will be lying face down, but others might be on their backs.
Initially, you will probably notice how quiet the room is at first.
As I start working with people, and that primal nervous system starts to awaken, the quiet may change.
People may cry, laugh, moan, and even growl.
Some will wiggle around on the table as the energy bound in tension starts to come to the surface.
We may have gotten the sense at an early age that certain parts of us were not valid and a program was stored in the nervous system that we needed to protect those parts.
However, when those parts feel seen and they feel safe, they begin to peak out.
I let them know that they are safe and that it is okay to let all that hidden pain and other emotion come to the surface.
It is only then that it can be examined.
It is only then that you can hear the message it is trying to convey to you.
It is only by acknowledging these hidden things that you can evolve.
I encourage you to trust yourself and the process.
Once this occurs, healing can begin.
Now I work with people online, as well.
In that setting I primarily use something called Brainspotting.
The premise behind Brainspotting is very similar to what I’ve discovered in my hands-on work over the years.
It creates safety in the system so the unprocessed, undigested information in the brain can be processed.
When should you seek help?
This will depend on you.
If you are feeling stuck in your life and feel unclear about how to get unstuck, look into trying this.
This process can also help someone who is ready to reclaim their power and take the next step of their evolution.
If you are trying to navigate a new area of your life and having difficulty, this can also help.
The main thing you need is a willingness to keep an open mind to the process and be willing to trust in yourself and the process.
If, however, you are someone who is simply looking to have the pain stop so you can get back to your regular life, this isn’t the process for you.
The pain indicates you’re likely resisting the flow of life in some way.
If that is something you are not ready to embrace, then I can’t help.
Source wants you to grow.
It has tried to gain your attention with the pain so you can examine where you are blocked.
You must at least be willing to consider this idea.
